Researching Local History Novels – Alan Dance

A talk by Alan Dance on how he uses archives to help him writing historical novels. Alan is the author of Narrow Marsh, Leen Times and The Chilwell Ghost, all with a local setting. He has also written The Westbrook Affair which is set in Sheffield. There will be a charge of £5 and refreshments will be provided. Non members are welcome. Note: Due to building work at the Archives there is no car-parking available on site.

'You make us so proud' is a project collecting contributions from people of African & Caribbean heritage giving accounts of their families and communities, originally in connection with the bicentenary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act 1807-2007. The book containing these memories is kept at Nottinghamshire Archives.

The John Player Archive Collections – Judith Mills

In the late 1980s John Player & Sons donated a significant collection of historic documents and artifacts to the City of Nottingham, which had been its home since the 1870s. These were split into two ‘collections’. About 20,000 items of advertising material including show cards, counter cards, original art work, packaging and photographs were given to Nottingham Museums and Galleries.
