Samuel Collinson was a stock broker from Hull who moved to Nottingham in the 1840s and made it his home for over 50 years. He was a respected member of the community and an active member of the Unitarian Chapel on High Pavement. His diary survives in Nottinghamshire Archives and contains a wealth of detail about Samuel’s life, his passions and interests and his involvment with the Robin Hood Rifles. The diary is also a frank and honest portrait of both Samuel and Victorian Nottingham. This talk tells his fascinating story.
Our speaker, Dr. Karen Winyard, is a local historian with a particaular interest in 19th Century Nottinghamshire.
